NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its initial list of 27 candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, fielding several heavyweights to lead the party’s campaign in the state.

The 234-member Assembly will go to the polls on April 23, 2026, with the BJP contesting as part of the NDA alliance led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

Major Nominations:

  • L. Murugan (Union Minister): To contest from Avanashi.
  • Tamilisai Soundararajan (Former Governor): Fielded from Mylapore.
  • Vanathi Srinivasan: Re-nominated for Coimbatore (North).
  • S. Vijayadharani: Named for the Vilavancode seat.

Campaign Focus

Union Minister and election in-charge Piyush Goyal stated that the alliance is committed to ending the "misrule of the DMK" by focusing on infrastructure, jobs, and transparent governance. The party aims to significantly improve its footprint in the state by leveraging the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and the local strength of the NDA.
