NEW DELHI – In a landmark address to the Lok Sabha on March 30, 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that Naxalism is on the "verge of extinction" across India. Highlighting the transformation of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, Shah declared that the shadow of Maoist violence has finally been replaced by a "path of development."

Key Developmental Breakthroughs:

  • Saturation of Services: Every village in Bastar now hosts a school and a ration shop, with healthcare centers established in every Tehsil and Panchayat.
  • Direct Benefit Transfer: Residents have been integrated into the national grid via Aadhaar and ration cards, ensuring consistent access to food grains.
  • End of Isolation: Shah noted that tribal communities, previously held back by "Red Terror," are now accessing the same welfare benefits as the rest of the country.

A Firm Policy on Dialogue:

The Home Minister reiterated the government's dual-track approach:

  • Rehabilitation: Insurgents who lay down their arms are guaranteed full state support for reintegration.
  • Firm Action: Those who choose continued violence will be met with a decisive military response.

Political Accountability

Shah criticized the 60-year governance of the Congress party, blaming past administrative failures for the loss of 20,000 lives to Maoist violence. He asserted that while previous leaders identified the threat, current initiatives have finally provided the security and infrastructure necessary to end it.
