Iran's Healthcare System Buckles Under Airstrikes

TEHRAN — Eight days of conflict have devastated Iran's medical infrastructure, with the Ministry of Health reporting over 1,200 deaths and 10,000 injuries since February 28. Among the casualties are approximately 200 children and 200 women, as strikes hit densely populated urban centers.
Critical Infrastructure Damage
The healthcare system is facing a near-total collapse in targeted regions:
- Hospitals: 25 facilities hit; 9 are completely out of service.
- Emergency Services: 18 emergency bases and 14 ambulances destroyed.
- Staff Toll: 11 healthcare workers killed and 33 injured while on duty.
WHO Warning
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that "attacks on healthcare violate international law" and noted that the conflict has already displaced 100,000 people. With a total internet blackout in place, verifying the full scale of the "grave public health threats"—including potential nuclear risks—remains a challenge.
