Lok Sabha to Revoke Suspension of 8 Opposition MPs Today

NEW DELHI — Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to facilitate the return of eight suspended Opposition MPs today, March 17, 2026. Following a cross-party consensus, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is expected to move a revocation motion at noon, ending a suspension that began on February 3.

The Agreement for Decorum:

To ensure the smooth functioning of the House for the remainder of the Budget Session, both the ruling and opposition parties have agreed to new behavioral protocols:

  • No "Well" Entry: Members will not enter the Well of the House to confront colleagues.
  • Prohibited Actions: Tearing and throwing papers toward the Chair or climbing on officials' tables is strictly forbidden.
  • Ethics & Conduct: The move follows an appeal by Speaker Birla to uphold the "dignity and prestige" of parliamentary democracy by avoiding the use of placards and banners inside the chamber.

Affected Members:

The revocation applies to seven Congress MPs (Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C Kiran Kumar Reddy, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Prashant Padole, Dean Kuriakose) and one CPI(M) MP (S Venkatesan).
