POWERGRID Acquires NES Pune East to Boost Maharashtra Power Grid

NEW DELHI — POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited has successfully acquired a 100% stake in NES Pune East New Transmission Limited (NPENTL). The acquisition, finalized on March 12, 2026, through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route, is aimed at eliminating transmission constraints in the Pune region.
Key Project Details:
- Scope: The project involves establishing a 765kV AIS substation in Ahilyanagar and laying 765kV and 400kV transmission lines across Maharashtra.
- Investment: POWERGRID acquired the entity for approximately Rs. 8.05 crore.
- Model: The project will operate on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis.
- Strategic Goal: This expansion is designed to enhance the reliability of the power supply infrastructure and support the growing industrial and residential demand in the region.
Post-acquisition, the company will seek necessary transmission licenses and tariff approvals from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission.
