PWD Finalizes ₹35 Crore Plan to Strengthen Zakhira and Seelampur Flyovers

NEW DELHI — The Public Works Department (PWD) has finalized the scope of work for the structural rehabilitation of the Zakhira and Seelampur flyovers. With a combined outlay of approximately ₹35 crore, the projects aim to reinforce two of the capital's aging transit arteries over the next 12 to 18 months.

Project Scope & Timelines

The strengthening work involves critical structural repairs to ensure long-term commuter safety:

  • Seelampur Flyover (₹16.3 Crore): The 20-year-old structure will undergo expansion joint replacement and strand prestressing. Work is expected to be completed within 12 months.
  • Zakhira Flyover (₹18.7 Crore): Built in the 1970s, this vital link for heavy commercial traffic will see repairs to honeycombed concrete and the replacement of elastomeric bearings. The timeline for completion is set at 18 months.

Strategic Impact

The Zakhira flyover serves as a primary connector between Rohtak Road and Najafgarh Road, handling high volumes of industrial traffic from Mundka and Anand Parbat. PWD officials stated that the "overall strengthening" is essential to accommodate the increasing load of commercial vehicles and prevent further structural deterioration.
