DEHRADUN – Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has welcomed the formal approval of the Rishikesh Bypass project by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The ₹1,105.79 crore initiative is set to overhaul traffic management in the region and provide a major boost to the state's tourism infrastructure.
The four-lane bypass, stretching approximately 12.67 km from Teenpani Flyover to Kharasrote Bridge on NH-7, will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.
Key Project Details:
- Connectivity: The route will pass through Bhattowala and Dhalwala, bypassing the congested main town areas.
- Timeline: The project is mandated for completion within three years, with strict clauses preventing cost or time escalations.
- Strategic Impact: Beyond easing local traffic, the bypass is designed to facilitate smoother transit for pilgrims on the Char Dham Yatra and tourists visiting the Yoga Capital.
- Funding: The expenditure is covered under the Government of India's budget provisions for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Governance and Development
Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the approval follows persistent follow-ups by the state government. He reiterated the administration's commitment to strengthening road networks in both urban and remote areas to drive economic growth. The Dehradun-based Regional Officer has been designated as the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) to ensure streamlined execution.
Once operational, the bypass is expected to permanently resolve the frequent traffic bottlenecks at the gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas.
