Central Delhi Traffic Alert: Major Disruptions Due to IPL Match and Teachers' Rally

NEW DELHI – Commuters in Central Delhi are advised to expect significant traffic restrictions and congestion today, April 4, 2026. The Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory citing two major concurrent events: a large-scale teachers' rally at Ram Leela Ground and an IPL 2026 clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Key Traffic Impact Zones:

  • Teachers' Rally (10 AM – 5 PM): Organized by the Teachers Federation of India, peak participant movement began at 8 AM. Restrictions are active around JLN Marg, Ajmeri Gate, and Minto Road.
  • IPL Match (3 PM – 7:30 PM): The Delhi Capitals vs. Mumbai Indians match will surge vehicular volume on Bahadur Shah Zafar (BSZ) Marg and surrounding arterial roads starting from early afternoon.

Restricted Routes & Diversions:

  • Commercial Vehicle Bans: Heavy vehicles may be barred on stretches from Daryaganj to Delhi Gate and ITO to Delhi Gate.
  • Key Affected Roads: Expect diversions on Asaf Ali Road, Chaman Lal Marg, and the Kamla Market roundabout.
