PM Modi Outlines 'MANAV' Framework: India’s Vision for Human-Centric AI

NEW DELHI (Feb 19, 2026) — At the AI Impact Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the "MANAV" vision, a five-pillar framework designed to ensure artificial intelligence serves as a tool for human empowerment rather than just machine intelligence.

The MANAV Acronym

The Prime Minister defined the Hindi word for "human" through these core principles:

  • M – Moral and Ethical Systems
  • A – Accountable Governance
  • N – National Sovereignty (Data Rights)
  • A – Accessible and Inclusive Technology
  • V – Valid and Legitimate Systems

A Historical Transformation

PM Modi compared the AI revolution to the invention of wireless communication, noting that we have entered an era where humans and machines "co-create, co-work, and co-evolve." He emphasized that while the transition from machine learning to "learning machines" is happening at an unprecedented speed, the focus must remain on expanding human capabilities.

The summit at Bharat Mandapam continues through February 20, hosting over 500 global leaders, including the heads of the UN and IMF.
