India’s Fuel Crisis Eases: LPG Bookings Drop as Panic Buying Subsides

NEW DELHI — The Indian government has confirmed that the nation’s fuel supply remains stable despite the ongoing West Asia crisis. Panic buying has significantly cooled, with LPG refill bookings dropping from 88.8 lakh to 77 lakh in just three days.

Key Supply & Distribution Updates:

  • Stable Reserves: Officials confirmed that domestic refineries are operating at high utilization and crude inventories are adequate. India remains self-sufficient in petrol and diesel, with no current need for imports.
  • Digital Shift: Online LPG bookings have surged to 87%, following government efforts to reduce physical crowding at distributorships.
  • Priority Allocation: Supplies are being prioritized for households, hospitals, and schools. Industrial and commercial natural gas supplies have been moderated to 80% to protect essential services.
  • Anti-Hoarding Measures: States including Bihar, Delhi, and Rajasthan have deployed enforcement teams to conduct raids and prevent the black-marketing of fuel.
  • PNG Rule Change: The LPG Control Order has been amended, requiring consumers with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to surrender their domestic LPG cylinders to ensure fair distribution.

Evacuation & Security:

The Ministry of External Affairs continues to monitor the regional conflict. Since February 28, approximately 1.94 lakh Indians have been successfully repatriated from West Asia.

Oil marketing companies have been instructed to keep LPG agencies open on Sundays to maintain a steady flow of essential cooking gas across all 30 states and UTs.
