IGL Assures Uninterrupted Gas Supply Amid Middle East Energy Crisis

NEW DELHI — Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has issued a formal assurance to consumers that the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for kitchens and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles will remain uninterrupted, despite severe disruptions in the global energy market.
The commitment follows the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, issued on March 9, which classifies domestic PNG and CNG as the "topmost priority" sectors for gas allocation.
Crisis Context & Strategic Response:
- Global Disruptions: Escalating conflict in the Middle East has pushed Brent crude prices toward $100 per barrel and caused the virtual closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for 20% of global LNG trade.
- Priority Status: Under the new government mandate, IGL is prioritized to receive gas supplies ahead of industrial sectors to maintain urban mobility and household essential services.
- Commitment to Mobility: IGL stated it remains focused on sustaining public and private transport fueling to prevent any breakdown in urban logistics during the international energy volatility.
The distributor’s proactive stance aims to curb public anxiety as maritime trade routes face significant challenges due to the ongoing regional military conflict.
