China to Join US at India’s Global AI Impact Summit

NEW DELHI (Feb 10, 2026) – In a significant thaw in regional tech relations, China has confirmed its participation in India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit, scheduled for February 16–20. The move marks a rare moment of diplomatic convergence, with both Beijing and Washington sending high-level delegations to New Delhi to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.

The announcement signals a growing "positive momentum" following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China last August. India’s Consul General in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, noted that the decision reflects a shared interest in navigating the complex intersection of technology and global governance.

A High-Stakes Table: Beijing Meets Washington

India has achieved a major diplomatic feat by convening rival superpowers at a single forum:

  • The Chinese Delegation: Led by Chen Jiachange, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, the team includes top leadership from the Shanghai AI Research Institute and the Beijing Institute of Technology.
  • The US Delegation: Led by Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, along with undersecretaries from the State and Commerce departments.
  • Global South Focus: Beijing has signaled its support for India’s "reformed multilateralism," focusing on inclusive AI development and equitable tech access for developing nations.

India as the "Convening Power"

By hosting this summit, New Delhi is positioning itself as a bridge between the West and the Global South. The five-day event will focus on setting international technical standards, ethical safeguards, and responsible AI models that serve the public good rather than just strategic rivalry.
