10,000+ Runners Compete in MCL Hirakud International Half Marathon 2026

SAMBALPUR — Over 10,000 athletes from India and abroad gathered at the iconic Hirakud Dam today for the MCL Hirakud International Half Marathon, a major sporting initiative by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).

The event was flagged off by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alongside several Odisha state ministers and top officials from Coal India and the district administration.

Global Participation

The marathon featured 21km, 10km, and 5km categories, drawing international talent from Kenya, Nigeria, and Bhutan. The scenic route along the world's longest earthen dam provided a unique backdrop for the high-energy competition.

The top honors of the day went to:

  • Women’s Champion: Sonika
  • Men’s Champion: Panchanan Bera
